Security solutions only seem to be getting more sophisticated with each passing year. From biometrics to access control systems to alarms and detectors, new advancements of security technology are invented at a rapid pace. But there’s one type of technology that, even with its constant improvements, is a staple for every security system: the humble security camera.

Surveillance cameras, CCTV, and other similar systems are a common choice for modern security systems because of their effectiveness and their affordability. With just a few well-placed cameras, you can cover a lot of ground and be able to monitor the goings of your area conveniently.

But having a surveillance camera or monitoring system is not a guarantee that your security is watertight. Choosing one that is reliable and can provide quality footage and video is something you need to put into consideration.

Today, modern cameras come in a dizzying array of picture quality and features, much more reliable than older generations. But this doesn’t mean that you don’t run the risk of security camera issues. Here are a few of them and how to tackle these issues.

  1. CCTV video is flickering. This issue is mostly caused by interference. Check if your cameras are properly installed and if your cables are damaged. Your equipment may be malfunctioning because of this.
  2. CCTV video has no signal. This is a more serious issue. It may be due to a poor video connection or problems with your software or camera. Check these places first.
  3. CCTV video only showing black and white footage. You can observe that cameras show black and white footage, especially at night because they can only distinguish colours under sufficient lighting. Ensure that there is enough light in the area.
