Whether you are at the start of your learning journey or have been on the track for some time, you probably have heard of the many misconceptions surrounding pole dancing in Singapore. Being one of the most controversial art forms (yes, we call it an art form because it actually is), pole dancing has been surrounded by rumours that can easily discourage someone interested in exploring it. To bust those misconceptions, we will share with you those false beliefs and the reality you’ll know once you enrol in an exotic dance studio near your place.

#1 Pole dancing is an Indecent Dance

This popular stigma about pole dancing can be rooted in the origin of the dance. Much like rumba, this sensual dance originates from the corners of West cities, mainly as performance in bars and clubs. Thus, when someone shows interest in learning the pole dance, people seemed to think they are into lewd performances. However, the origin of the dance should not be used as a measure to criticize it. In reality, pole dancing is an excellent exercise and can improve people’s flexibility, muscular strength, and self-confidence.

#2 Pole dancing is For Girls

Undeniably, the number of girls enrolling in a pole dance studio can be overwhelming when compared to boys and other genders. However, this does not mean that the dance itself is exclusively for girls. As mentioned, there are boys as well as members of the LGBTQ who are into pole dancing.

#3 Pole Dancing is for Slim People Only

If you are not a slim or petite person and you’re planning to enrol for pole dancing classes, this misconception will probably get you discouraged. One might think that since the dance requires climbing on the pole, it will be difficult if you are far from lightweight. However, many enthusiasts are using pole dancing as a fitness routine. Thus, not everyone who practices pole dancing is already slim during their first try.

#4 Pole Dancing is Not for Old People

When pole dancing can actually help ageing people in exercising their bones and muscles, this misconception can easily discourage them to try. Worry not! Pole dancing is really for everyone. As long as you have the patience and interest to learn the dance, it can be an enjoyable experience for you as much as it can do wonders for your body.
