Is getting a tutor worth it?
It is a common question that runs in the mind of parents. But, what about the children? Do they think that they need one? If one can have a clear answer to that, it would surely make their parents sleep soundly at night because they do not want to use valuable money for something unproductive. As a student myself, I might be one of the few who think a lot about getting an H2 chemistry tutor.
Yes, I love school and I am not ashamed of it! I highly believe that it is an essential part of our lives that would lead us to something greater. So, I take it seriously that I even think about having a tutor this summer.
What you must know about me is that I am an achiever. I like winning medals and getting called up on stage for an award. But, there is one award that I cannot acquire, and that is an award for being the best in chemistry. It will all change after this summer! Let me tell you why.
Instead of being a bum this summer, I decided that I am getting help from an A level chemistry tuition in Singapore. I expressed this to my mum and she agreed. She wants me to have a bright future so she supports and caters to my academic needs.
Anyone would be thankful if they had a mum like mine, so I would not let this go to waste. I got myself an H2 chemistry tutor from The Chemistry Practice. They are renowned tuition in Singapore that helps struggling students with their H2 classes and A level subjects. Well, I was one of them! Here is what they helped me with this summertime:
The first few sessions of my tutoring were all about recalling what I already knew. Of course, it includes the periodic table and some complex problem-solving methods. Knowing this, my tutor used it to create a teaching plan for me. At least, that is what he said to me.
At this time, I find it important to tell the truth. It all worked out because I did not pretend when I did not know something. This is when I knew it was going to be a summer full of formulas and chemicals!
By identifying what I know, my tutor addressed my weaknesses or the things that I do not know. To admit, numbers are not my best feat. At least, when they are next to some letters. They are, indeed, my weakness.
My tutor, however, helped me get past my weaknesses step-by-step. He would say that I need to face them eye to eye. At first, it was hard. I had many doubts that I would not survive the next school year when I let fear control me. Thankfully, my H2 chemistry tutor guided me through it! He even made me a mnemonic device that would help me navigate through a complex problem.
By the 5th session, I was doing well. My tutor said that I was different in answering problems than I did before. When he talked about it with my mum, she talked to me about it. She said that she was proud of my progress. I expressed my liking to my tutor, how he helped me get through difficult lessons. He is patient in simplifying the concepts, which I appreciate!
He also gave tips on how I can improve my studying. It was not what I expected to receive from H2 chemistry tuition, but I am glad that they provide their students with this skill because we get to use it in our other subjects!
Would I win that Best in Chemistry award? Who knows? What I know is that I am more confident in studying the subject. My tutor said that it was a start and I should be happy about it. Well, I am extremely happy that I can raise my hand when my teacher asks a question, or when I get randomly called to answer a question. With my tutor’s help, I am no longer afraid to face my fear of going to my Chemistry class!
We all know that junior college is a challenging time in our academic journey, but it does not mean that you are in it alone. There are many people out there who are willing to help. In my case, they were my parents and Mr Kelvin. Mr Kelvin, my online A level chemistry tutor, helped me get ready for the next academic year, and he would help you too!
If you want to know more about his credentials, you can visit their website. They also offer a free trial session for you to know if you want to have a tutor this summer!
