Scandinavian interior design has been one of the most adopted styles for both home interior. With its minimalist features, this style is always recommended by interior design firms across the world.

Did you know that Scandinavian interior design is easy to apply in your own home?

Here are five ways you can transform your home in Scandinavian design:

  • Make use of natural lights

Scandinavian countries often have long winters. Thus, their houses are built to allow as much sunlight to enter. Adopting this principle, you’ll not only add an aesthetic vibe to your home but save energy as well. Adding a skylight roofing or large glass panel windows will help you achieve this principle.

  • Paint the walls white

Most of the Scandinavian interior designs employ white color for walls. The lack of sunlight in the Scandinavian regions is also the reason behind this principle. Painting the walls in white illuminates the interiors even with the little sunlight.

  • Use some light wood

The wood accent is widely-used in Scandinavian design. Wooden furniture, wood panel floorings, and even wooden decors are used together with the white color scheme. A wood element to your house can make a more welcoming atmosphere.

  • Rugs instead of carpet

Scandinavians are known for hunting. Their hunting prizes are usually hanged to the walls or placed as mats on the floor (yes, we are talking about stag heads and sheepskin here). This popularized the idea of using rugs instead of carpet. Rugs are often placed under the center table or beside the bed which would only cover only a space on the floor.

  • Clutter-free

If you want to adopt a Scandinavian interior design for your home, you’ll have to give up most of your decors. This style promotes less clutter and “leave only what is necessary” principle. The good thing about is that it creates more room for movement. There is a lot more to Scandinavian design than what is listed here. These five principles are the easiest to adopt. You can apply them to your home by yourself.
